Something stopped working after a Toddle update

Why this happens, what to try first, and what to send us.

Why this happens

Toddle does not publish an interface for what this extension does, so it reads the same internal one the Toddle web app uses. That is what makes it fast — expanding an assessment costs one request, not one per student — and it is also the risk: a Toddle release can rename something, and a column stops appearing.

It is not a reason to distrust the extension. It is a reason to tell us, because we cannot see Toddle releases coming.

Try these first

  1. Reload the page. Toddle is a single-page app and the gradebook sometimes loads in a state the extension missed.

  2. Check you are on Gradebook → Assessments. The toolbar only appears there.

  3. Remove any older copy of the extension. Two copies installed together fight each other and neither works properly. This is the single most common cause.

  4. Update Chrome, then restart it.

Specific things you might see

The toolbar is missing entirely. Usually the older-copy problem above, or Toddle has renamed the part of the page the toolbar attaches to. Tell us.

A column says "Unavailable". The extension could not read that one assessment tool. Everything else still works. Tell us which assessment type.

It says columns are showing below instead of in the grid. The grid would not take the extra columns, so it fell back to its own table. The data is the same. This is the designed fallback, not a failure.

A flag is visible somewhere it should not be. Tell us straight away, and say which screen. This one matters most.

A button does nothing. Check your licence: the columns, the CSV export, the student sidebar and primary teacher names need one. If the licence has expired, been cancelled, or is for another Toddle account, those buttons open the licence page instead, and the extension's toolbar menu says why.

What to send us

Write to [email protected] with:

  • What you clicked and what happened

  • The extension version — it is shown at the right-hand end of the toolbar, and at the top of the extension's toolbar menu

  • Your Chrome version, from chrome://version

  • A screenshot with student flags hidden, so no student's flag is in it

Please do not send a screenshot containing student names if you can avoid it. A description is usually enough.
