Installing the Toddle Enhancement Extension

How a teacher installs it from the Chrome Web Store, and where school IT should look instead.

Written by Bryan Fawcett

The Toddle Enhancement Extension works in Chrome and other Chromium browsers (Edge, Brave, Arc). It does not work in Safari, Firefox, or the Toddle mobile apps.

Installing it for a whole school? See Deploying the extension to your whole school with Google Admin instead: your IT team can push it to every teacher, with nothing for anyone to install.

If you are one teacher

  1. Open the extension's page on the Chrome Web Store.

  2. Click Add to Chrome, then confirm. The extension asks for access to Toddle's website (web.toddleapp.com) and nothing else, plus storage for its own settings.

  3. A welcome tab opens, once. It explains the features, lets you choose your defaults, and has a box for a licence key if you have one.

  4. Pin the extension so its icon is always in view: click Chrome's puzzle-piece icon, then the pin beside Toddle Enhancement Extension. The icon opens the extension's menu.

  5. Open Toddle. If you have a licence, open any gradebook (Gradebook → Assessments) and a toolbar appears above the grid.

Chrome keeps the extension up to date on its own. After an update, reload any Toddle tab you already had open.

"Not trusted by Enhanced Safe Browsing"

If you use Chrome's Enhanced Safe Browsing, the store may show a notice that the extension is not trusted by Enhanced Safe Browsing. That is about the publisher, not about anything the extension does: Chrome shows it for publishers who are new to the Chrome Web Store and have not yet built up a track record. It goes away with time, as the publisher stays in good standing. If your school deploys the extension through Google Admin, the notice does not block that.

Nothing to set up

There is no account to create and no configuration. The extension reads the Toddle pages you already have open, using the Toddle session you are already signed in with.

The student flags switch and the My classes filter work straight away, for free. If you bought a licence, paste your key in once: see Licences, pricing, and activating your key.

If nothing appears

  • Check you are on Toddle's website, web.toddleapp.com. The extension does nothing anywhere else.

  • If the extension's toolbar menu has an Extension on switch, check it is on.

  • Reload the page once.

  • Remove any older copy of the extension first. Two copies installed at the same time fight each other and neither works properly.

Still nothing? See Troubleshooting, or tell us at [email protected].
