Quick fixes for the most common problems with the Toddle Enhancement Extension. If something worked before and Toddle has just changed, see Something stopped working after a Toddle update.
The extension doesn't show up at all
Check it is installed and turned on. Open
chrome://extensionsin Chrome's address bar. Toddle Enhancement Extension should be listed, with its switch on.Pin its icon. Click Chrome's puzzle-piece icon and pin the extension, so its menu is one click away.
Check you are on Toddle's website,
web.toddleapp.com. It does nothing anywhere else, and not in the Toddle mobile apps.Check the master switch. If the toolbar menu has Extension on, it must be on. Off leaves Toddle untouched.
Check the feature's own switch in the toolbar menu, and whether it says Locked: needs a licence.
Reload the Toddle tab.
Remove any older copy of the extension from
chrome://extensions. Two copies fight each other and neither works properly.
If your school installed it for you and it is missing, ask your IT team. On your computer, chrome://extensions should say Installed by enterprise policy; if it does not, the school's policy may not have reached your browser yet. Restarting Chrome usually picks it up.
The gradebook toolbar is missing but everything else works? It appears only on Gradebook → Assessments, and needs a licence and the Gradebook tools switch.
"Not trusted by Enhanced Safe Browsing"
If you use Chrome's Enhanced Safe Browsing, the Chrome Web Store may say the extension is not trusted by Enhanced Safe Browsing. That notice is about the publisher, not about anything the extension does: Chrome shows it for publishers who are new to the Chrome Web Store and have not yet built up a track record. It goes away with time, as the publisher stays in good standing.
If your school deploys the extension through Google Admin, the notice does not block that. What the extension can see and send is set out in What the extension can and cannot see.
Reload Toddle after an update
Chrome updates the extension on its own, in the background. A Toddle tab that was already open keeps running the old copy, and parts of the extension may stop responding there.
Reload every Toddle tab after an update, or close them and open Toddle again. Do the same after you activate a licence key, if a tab does not pick it up.
To see which version you have, open the extension's toolbar menu: the version number is shown there.
My licence key is not accepted
Open the extension's toolbar menu and click the licence link to open the licence page. It says what is wrong, in words:
"Not licensed": no key is entered. Click Enter a licence key and paste the key from your purchase email.
"Paste your licence key first." The box was empty when you clicked Activate.
"That key is not valid" or "That does not look like a licence key." Paste the whole key again, fresh from the email. It starts with
TEE1.and is long; copy all of it, with no line breaks or spaces at the end."This licence is for …; you're signed in to Toddle as another account." The key belongs to another Toddle account or school. Sign in to Toddle with the account the licence was bought for, then reload the tab. If your email address has changed, write to us and we will reissue the key.
"That licence has expired." Licences run a year. Write to us to renew.
"This licence has been revoked." The key has been cancelled, for example after a refund. If you think this is wrong, write to us.
"This browser is too old to check the key" or "This browser cannot check the key." Update Chrome.
"The licence could not be checked. Reload the page." Reload the licence page, or close and reopen the menu.
After fixing it, reload any open Toddle tabs. More detail is in How licences work.
The key never arrived? Keys come from [email protected], usually within a minute of paying. Check your spam folder. Some orders, such as an organisation licence paid for from a personal email address, are checked by hand first. If it has been more than a few minutes, write to [email protected] from the address you bought with.
"Not yet checked against your Toddle account"
You may see this on the licence page right after you activate a key. It is not an error. Your licence works, but the extension has not yet seen which Toddle account you are signed in with.
Open Toddle (or reload a Toddle tab) and sign in. The message goes away once the extension has checked the licence against your account.
The student sidebar does not open
Work through these in order:
Check your licence. The sidebar needs one. If the toolbar menu says "Locked: needs a licence" next to Student sidebar, see the licence section above.
Check the switch. In the toolbar menu, Student sidebar must be on.
Use a plain click on the student's photo or name. A Cmd, Ctrl, Shift or middle click opens Toddle's own page instead, on purpose. Clicking a checkbox, an attendance code or a button in the row does not open the sidebar either.
Check where you are. In School setup (Toddle's admin portal) the sidebar steps aside for now, and a click on a student does what Toddle does.
Reload the Toddle tab, especially if the extension has just updated.
Remove any older copy of the extension from
chrome://extensions.
Still nothing? Tell us which page you were on, for example the gradebook or the Attendance dashboard's Students tab. Toddle may have changed that page.
Sending us feedback
Open the extension's toolbar menu and click Send feedback. Choose what it is about, write your message, and add your email address if you would like a reply. Nothing is sent until you press Send, and it sends only what you typed plus the extension's version number: nothing from Toddle, no page address and no licence key.
Or write to [email protected]. Either way, tell us:
what you clicked and what happened
which Toddle page you were on
the extension version, from the toolbar menu
your Chrome version, from
chrome://version
Please leave out student names, and if you send a screenshot, conceal student flags first. A description is usually enough.
