Exporting your gradebook to CSV

What the export contains, where it goes, and what to do before you share it.

Written by Bryan Fawcett

Export CSV in the toolbar saves what you are looking at as a spreadsheet file.

What is in it

One row per student, per assessment, per criterion:

  • Student name, email and student ID

  • Assessment title and type

  • The standard or criterion, with its code

  • The result, and the full level wording

  • Submission status

Expand the assessments you want first — the export contains what is expanded, not the whole gradebook.

Where it goes

Wherever your browser puts downloads. The file is generated inside your browser and saved by your browser; it does not pass through any service of ours, because there is not one.

Before you share it

The file contains student names and email addresses. That is the point of it — but it means the file is exactly as sensitive as the gradebook it came from.

  • Do not email it to anyone who should not see the whole class's results.

  • Do not put it in a shared drive folder that is wider than the people who need it.

  • Delete it when the meeting it was for is over.

Your school's data protection policy applies to this file the same way it applies to any export from Toddle.

Opening it

It opens in Excel, Numbers, Google Sheets or LibreOffice. It is UTF-8 with a byte-order mark, so accented characters and non-Latin names come through correctly in Excel.

Needs a licence

The CSV export is one of the licensed features. See Licences, pricing, and activating your key.
