Toddle marks students with flags. They are useful, which is the point of them, and they are exactly what you do not want on a projector, in a screen share with a parent, in a lesson observation, or in a screenshot pasted into a planning document.
The extension can conceal them. Until you switch concealing on, flags show as Toddle shows them, so a new install looks like Toddle. Concealing is your choice, made before you share.
Switching it on
Use the flags switch in Toddle's top bar, beside Toddle's own icons.
Or use the same switch in the extension's toolbar menu, under Across Toddle.
They are one setting: change it in one place and the other follows. It stays as you left it as you move around Toddle and across browser sessions, so you can set it before a lesson rather than remember it during one.
It is free. You do not need a licence for it, and you never will.
What a concealed flag looks like
A concealed flag shows no colour, so someone looking at your screen cannot read which students have flags or what kind they are.
Seeing one student's flags
Sometimes you need to read a student's flags while the rest of the screen stays concealed. Open that student in the student sidebar and use Show flags. That one student's flags show, in the sidebar only. Everywhere else, flags stay concealed. When the sidebar closes, it forgets them.
The student sidebar needs a licence. Without one, switch concealing off for a moment when you need to read a flag, and back on before you share again.
It conceals flags, not names
Students stay identifiable to you. You are still teaching, and a gradebook of anonymous rows is no use to anyone. It is the flag that comes off the screen, because that is the piece of information the room should not be reading over your shoulder.
What it does not do
Please read this part before telling colleagues it is safe.
It conceals flags. It does not hide names.
It does not stop anyone deliberately opening a student's profile or a panel about them.
It works by changing what Toddle draws on the page. A Toddle release can change that, and then a screen that used to be covered might not be.
With the extension's master switch (Extension on) off, nothing is concealed.
It is a good lid, not a lock, and it is not a substitute for your school's safeguarding practice.
Before you share your screen
Check that the flags switch is on.
Glance at the page you are about to share and check no flag is readable.
Then share, the same way you check you have picked the right window.
Earlier versions of the extension called this switch "Hide student flags" or "Blur student flags", and looked slightly different. Whatever your version calls it, the check above is the same.
If a flag still shows somewhere
That is worth telling us about straight away: [email protected], or Send feedback in the extension's toolbar menu. Say which screen, and please do not send a screenshot that shows the flag.
