Getting a YNAB personal access token

Step-by-step: where to generate the token you'll paste into your MCP client.

Written by Bryan Fawcett

You only need this if you're using the "your own token" connection option instead of "Sign in with YNAB" — see Connecting to Claude, ChatGPT, or another MCP client.

  1. Go to app.ynab.com/settings/developer (log in to YNAB first if you aren't already).

  2. Under Personal Access Tokens, click New Token.

  3. Enter your YNAB password to confirm, and copy the token shown — YNAB only shows it once.

  4. Use it as https://ynab.nyuchi.com/mcp?token=<your-token>, or send it as an Authorization: Bearer <your-token> header if your client supports custom headers.

Revoking a token

Delete it from the same Developer Settings page at any time — this immediately cuts off this service's access to your budget, with nothing to do on the Nyuchi MCP for YNAB side.
