What is Nyuchi MCP for YNAB, and what can it do?

An overview of the tools available and what they let your AI assistant do with your budget.

Written by Bryan Fawcett

Nyuchi MCP for YNAB is a remote Model Context Protocol server that connects an AI assistant — Claude, ChatGPT, or another MCP-compatible client — directly to your own YNAB budget, so you can ask it questions and have it make changes on your behalf, in plain English.

What it can do

  • Answer questions across accounts, transactions, categories, payees, and months

  • Create, update, or delete transactions — including bulk operations

  • Search transactions and pull spending/category/payee analytics

  • Generate a monthly report, with a live interactive dashboard on hosts that support it

  • Reconcile an account — compare cleared transactions against a real-world statement balance, the same workflow as YNAB's own "Reconcile" button

  • Manage scheduled transactions and category budgeting month to month

It accepts plain dollar amounts (not YNAB's internal milliunits format) and uses delta sync plus caching so repeated questions come back fast without hammering the YNAB API.

Getting started

Open source

This is a hosted deployment of the open-source mcp-ynab project, built by Nyuchi. You're welcome to self-host your own instance instead — the README covers the Cloudflare deployment.
