Your feed is built from two things you control: the countries you want news from, and the interests you pick. You are asked for both the first time you open Mukoko News, and you can change them at any time.
Countries
The country picker lists every African country. Pick as many as you like — the feed then leads with stories from those countries and fills the rest in from the wider continent.
Coverage is not the same everywhere. Some countries have dozens of newsrooms in our index and some have one or two, so a country you add may be quieter than you expect. We add sources continuously; Insights shows exactly how many sources each country currently has.
Interests
Interests are a fixed set of human interest areas shared across all Mukoko apps — not news sections. Picking Football or Personal finance tells the whole platform something about you, and news is only one of the places that shows up.
Set them on your profile page. You can also adjust them from the picker on the feed itself.
Where your choices are saved
Interests on your profile are saved to your Mukoko account, so they follow you to any device you sign in on, and across the other Mukoko apps.
Country and category choices made in the feed picker are currently stored in the browser you made them in. If you switch phone or browser, or clear your site data, you will be asked again. Making the feed picker account-wide is on the roadmap.
Starting over
Clearing all your interests on the profile page returns you to the general feed — the most recent and highest-quality stories from your chosen countries, with no personal weighting.
